During the training visit Blu Tyre of the young Lebanese in Salento, thanks to the coordination of the Mayor of Tricase and the regional councilor for the environment Anna Grazia Maraschio, the municipalities of Capo di Leuca demonstrated full solidarity with the Municipality of Tyre which, in this phase, is trying to manage the consequences of the conflict along the Blue Line border. Engineer Hassan Srour of the technical office of Tyre informs us that, at this moment, more than 23,000 Lebanese have abandoned their homes close to the bombings to take refuge in the schools and public structures of the city with evident problems related to the daily need for food, blankets, medicines as well as the entire logistics for collecting, storing and distributing aid. The renewed tension of October 2023 in fact adds to a multi-sectoral crisis context that has devastated the country in the last 4 years and has interconnectedly affected economy, bank system, energy, food, environment and social security.

With the words of councilor Maraschio: “These initiatives make Salento an actor in territorial cooperation with other Mediterranean countries. Although the partnership focuses on environmental governance, we cannot be deaf to the most pressing emergency difficulties. For this reason, it is important to involve all municipal administrations so that they can represent a boost of solidarity for the entire Salento community and not just for a single institution or initiative.

In the current moment of tension, CTM remains at the forefront in promoting the historic friendship between Italy and Lebanon, in the belief that cooperation and dialogue represent the best strategy to counter the war.
