FORPRO is an initiative aimed at supporting small-scale agricultural production as a concrete response to the humanitarian and social consequences of the war and economic crisis affecting Lebanon, with particular reference to the most vulnerable sections of the population of the Tyre District.

The project is implemented by CTM – Cooperation in the Territories of the World in partnership with the Union of Tyre Municipalities and co-financed by the Italian Government – Presidency of the Council of Ministers (IRPEF quota 8xmille).

FORPRO aims to improve access to food and strengthen the self-sustaining capacities of vulnerable families through support for family and community farming. In particular, about 200 families of small producers and local farmers receive technical training, in-kind support and customized agricultural kits for the creation and management of home and community gardens, based on the adoption of sustainable agrobiological practices, with low climate impact and without the use of synthetic products.

The intervention also includes the construction of a seedbed dedicated to the protection of local varieties, the improvement of the irrigation infrastructure of the public agricultural area and the activation of a pilot initiative for the production of compost, aimed at fertilizing and mulching, contributing to the reduction of waste and the strengthening of local agricultural supply chains at zero km.

Thanks to these integrated actions, the project contributes to strengthening local agricultural value chains, improving the production and distribution capacity of the territory and generating indirect benefits for about 1,000 citizens of the municipalities involved, who will be able to access the products of the gardens. In the medium term, FORPRO supports the resilience of local communities, promoting food security, socio-economic inclusion and sustainable agricultural practices in the District of Tyre.
